NYC Central 0-6-0 Yard Switch Engine and Tender
January 25, 2004
This is my first attempt at engine building. The engine I selected to build is NYC USRA design. This numbered engine is a B-11d 0-6-0 built in Lima Ohio in 1918. It with two other engines spent their switch cars around the Greensburg, Indiana NYC yard until retirement in the mid 1960s.
THE TENDER
The TENDER is completed with a final polycount of 2500. The tender does not contain a shadow file. I will add one at a later date. The bogeys can be downloaded from the DLS.
THE ENGINE
The engine is about 90 percent completed. The last major task is the animated drivers. They are giving me a hard time. The set packed with this version are two large. I need 51-inch drivers; therefore I need to make them myself. I also need to determine steam attachment points and add some components to the boiler. If anyone would like to lend a hand, I will make the Gmax file available.
The engines polycount is 7300. This is before reduction. I expect to reduce the number by about 25 percent. The textures have yet to be organized into palettes and maps. When this is completed, the frame rates will be greatly reduced.
I am making this engine available to determine if there are any major flaws in its design.
