Rolling Stock as Scenery Items

As I started to add rolling stock to my yards, I soon found out that just how quickly performance was effected. Therefore, I started playing around with the idea that RR cars sitting in yards or on sidings need not have a lot of detail because they are view from afar or from within an engine cab. Based upon that assumption, I set about creating some LOW POLYCOUNT cars as scenery items. There are several cars for down load however their polycount range to almost 3500 PER CAR, far to high for a yard full of cars.

Take a look at the yard scene at the following location. There are 26 cars (not counting the first track) setting in the yard.

What do you think is the TOTAL POLY count for all the 26 cars?

DO NOT COUNT the BOX CAR RED CARS in the first row. I will reveal the answer sometime next week. You may be surprised.
